Associate General Counsel Employment and Vice President of Human Resources - West Sacramento, CA

The successful candidate will

  • Manage and implement the company’s invention capture and other patent-related processes and policies;
  • Draft and prosecute the company’s patent applications (US and foreign patent offices, especially Asia Pacific region);
  • Manage outside counsel in the drafting and prosecution of the company’s patent applications (US and foreign patent offices);
  • Participate in the management and mining of the company’s patent portfolio;
  • Counsel colleagues on patent portfolio and strategy; and conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate reviews as needed.
  • The successful candidate, depending on seniority level and experience, may manage a small team of other patent professionals. In addition, the successful candidate may review and assist in the drafting and negotiation of nondisclosure and other agreements involving the licensing of intellectual property and assist on other legal matter as necessary.

  • A bachelor’s or higher degree in physics, chemistry, material sciences or an engineering field;
  • A license to practice before the USPTO;
  • 7-10 years of industry or law firm experience in a patent prosecution and patent portfolio management role;
  • Strong verbal and written skills;
  • The ability to collaborate with internal clients and counterparties;
  • The ability to convey complex information to internal clients and external parties; and
  • experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
